Bad news

While away on holiday in Bulgaria (R won a stay at the Melsa Coop hotel in Nessebar last year) I received the awful news that my dad had a stroke. Pretty much spoiled the last days there. I was so worried, but at least he’s stable, conscious and lucid. It was pretty bad though and treatment didn’t work, so he suffered the full blow of it. He seems to be paralysed on his left side at the moment… I know it could’ve been much worse. He’s 80 in December and suffers from heart faillure, but still… This is DAD. He’s invincible, right?
We just got back Saturday (only one flight a week to Bruxelles) and I’ve managed to book a flight to Portugal for Wednesday. I’m almost affraid of seeing my dad so vulnerable in hospital R has no more days, so it’ll just be me and Sprout. My father in law kindly offered to pick us up at the airport and drive the 500km up to my parents’. That will be a HUGE help. Times like these, being far kinda sucks. We had another family incident earlier this year and were oblivious to what was going on. It’s hard not to be close to loved ones, especially when they’re suffering.
I now worry about my mom… She’s a heck of a strong lady, but has her own issues. They have family close by, but both me and my sister are in different countries. How do other expats out there handle these situations? Please send good vibes his way!

  3. Hi, Sandra!

I know what it’s like…. but things will turn out ok, you’ll see! You know we are close by so if you need anything don’t hesitate..
